Fake it ’til you make it

Dear Geeky, I’ve been impressing my family with home-grown fruit and vegies for a year now. But I’ve been living a lie.

Only last week, I bought organic potatoes from the grower’s market and buried them in the ground for my kids to find. And before that I sticky-taped a truss of (supermarket) crimson tomatoes to my non-fruiting tomato plant.

Shall I confess?

Geeky says Are you insane? Do you really want to expose yourself as a lying, cheating, low-life, loser that you are?

No, better to carry on deceiving your family. That way, they can learn that anything is possible in the garden. And that might inspire your kids to grow their own vegies one day.

  1. Or, better still, assuage your guilt by planting some vegies! Start with snow peas, they can go in now and follow up with a real crop of spuds in August.
